If someone gets more than thousand points within 19 hours it's organized via Twitter. But they seem really hellbent on eliminating mini-rooms, so that producers and studios will either have to properly staff writers they bring in, or the showrunners who want all the glory are actually going to have to all the writing themselves. I don’t think the WGA is going to succeed with their minimum staffing requirements for writers on shows, as that is asking a lot when, as you said, different shows will have different needs. Mini-rooms take this even further by bringing in a group of writers for a couple of weeks, outlining the season in depth, but then kicking them out so the showrunner and maybe one or two of their buddies can then write the actual scripts themselves, thus getting all the credit, thus all the money. That’s why it is generally considered bad taste for a showrunner to put their name on a script someone else in the room wrote even if they did polish up or rewrite sections thoroughly (Misha Green made enemies of basically the whole writers room on Lovecraft Country by taking a credit on every script of the show, which was her right as showrunner, but it screwed her staff out of money). A writer only gets residuals if they’re credited on a script, and they get a larger residual check if they are the sole author. Mini-rooms are effectively ways to screw writers on residuals and credit. The WGA has a bullet point in their strike demands about wanting a minimum number of writers staffed on a show, but most are speculating that’s something added that they can drop once the studios decide they want to negotiate, that way it looks like they’ve conceded ground without dropping the big things they want addressed (residuals and AI).
