This year, Stetson should be in great shape, but will have to deal with the loss of leading scorer Derick Newton. Meanwhile a win could have been the start of a real run. That seemed to be the type of loss that derailed the rest of the season for the Hatters. Then in last year’s conference opener against FGCU, they lost by one point in another wild game. The Hatters have been a doormat for the last few years in the league, but they made it to the conference championship game two years ago, and took that game to overtime before losing to FGCU on the last play. That’s right, this is the year that Stetson finally competes and becomes a force to be reckoned with in the A-Sun. A big component to the Bison’s potential success is filling up their often-empty 5,000-seat home gym at Allen Arena. The team shot its way to a number of impressive victories last year, including a win over FGCU in Fort Myers, and they will be one of the top dogs in the conference coming into next season. Fortunately for the Bison, their three-point marksman Nathan Moran will return along with all but one of last year’s starting five. Unfortunately for the Bison, last year’s senior leader Cam Miller is gone. The Bison were the surprise team of 2017 in the A-Sun, finishing the regular season with an 11-3 conference record and a 20-win season for the first time in over a decade. 1, thanks to their back-to-back conference titles and, more importantly, returning stars Brandon Goodwin, Zach Johnson, and Christian Terrell.
